Dragon Dictation App for iPhone
I downloaded the Dragon Dictation app for the iPhone tonight and the majority of the text of this post is coming via speech to text from my iPhone. I did have to edit this somewhat before I posted but the edits were minimal.
**NOTE: I originally posted this as totally coming from my iPhone via the app but I have since made edits and added content.
When you open the app for first use it asks if...

Big DNS Attack
Remember on Saturday where I made a post about security in the aftermath of the latest Twitter meltdown? It’s happened again.
Amazon.com showed the first signs of trouble today around 8:00 PM EST as their services became sluggish. Then about 30 minutes later it became apparent that the problem was larger than just Amazon with reports that salesforce.com and walmart.com were having troubles...

Startling Numbers Indeed
The Deloitte 2009 Education Survey is out and the results are somewhat startling. For instance, only 9% of the high school teachers responded that preparing students for college is their primary mission. Instead, helping students master the subject, teaching basic life skills, and ensuring students graduate high school were ranked ahead of preparing students for success in college.
When students...

Around the Web This Morning
After receiving a spam request via Skype this morning I was left thinking wow, there really is no place to hide from those who like to wreak havoc… they will find us anywhere. So let’s take a spin around the web.
There is a new Facebook clickjacking attack making the rounds. Mashable has the low down.
A report is out from Project Information Literacy titled “How College...

Security Should Become a Focus
The Christian Science Monitor posted an article yesterday that covers the Twitter attack from an angle that insinuates that political hacking may be a trend that grows in the future.
From the same ideal Rich Tehrani, Technology Marketing CEO and VoIP pro says that 2010 will be the Year of CyberAttacks and he encourages technology leaders in corporate, financial and government sectors to place...
Latest Twitter Hack was via E-mail
Mashable.com is reporting that the Twitter hack that occurred this past week had its genesis in a hacked e-mail account. Although hackers reportedly did not gain access to any Twitter data, they were successful in re-routing visitors via a change to DNS records. The group responsible for the breach calls themselves the “Iranian Cyber Army”.

Gadgets!
I found these two videos from the Jimmy Fallon show where Josh Toplotsky offers up some nifty gadgets in between the typical yuck… and nerd guy jokes. It’s a two-parter and you have to sit through an ad per video but there are some pretty neat gadgets here. I think Fallon hit on a great point in both videos. He wants the technology to be easy… “on, off” that’s...

Today's Around the Web
It’s Friday! Friday evening to be exact and that’s even better. Friday evenings are awesome as you have your entire weekend ahead of you. I am fresh off a different kind of day for me. This morning I attended the Christmas play at Fancy Farm Elementary… a bunch of smiles, lot’s of cheer and a great job by children from P-6. For lunch I went bowling with a group of students...

Around the Web on "Hump-day"
Well, Wednesday is almost behind us and now its a downhill ride to the weekend. Here’s a dose of mid-week resources I have found on the web this week.
Macworld’s iPhone Central released their 2009 App Gems Awards on Tuesday and I found plenty that I did not have… but will be trying out soon. iPhone Central also offered up a comparison of nine iPhone GPS apps.
You might want to...

Around the net today
THE Journal offered up a blog post earlier this week titled 5 K-12 Technology Trends for 2010 written by Bridget McCrea. I thought the predictions were rather obvious but I’ll bite… and offer in my thoughts.
eBooks Will Continue to Proliferate
I disagree. Although their may be some growth in the use of these devices in K-12 I would hardly think we will see a major increase...

Building a Web 2.0 Culture
From Paul Curtis, presented at the K12 Online Conference. There are also supporting documents available for the presentation.
Great use of online books
The folks over at Free Technology for Teachers have given instructions on embedding free books that are on the web into a Google Site. As the teachers in our district move to Google Sites for web publishing I think this could be yet another great tool to use both in and out of the classroom.

Google Docs Primer
I am going to be doing a series of trainings on Google Docs in my district and I stumbled across this video on YouTube so I thought I would share. I think this is a good way to diversify the training and to let principals, students and teachers share how they are using Google Docs in their current environments and why.
E-books Discussion
Over at the K12 Online Conference they are talking about e-Books. In particular Colin Hill, a primary educator from England is heading up a discussion on using e-Books to motivate writing.

Look out... my wheels are spinning again.
Last week at the Tennessee Education Technology Conference one of the keynote speakers was Brad Fountain who presented “The iBrain and Education: A Terrible Thing to Waste”.
The keynote utilized the concept of digital natives and digital immigrants to drive the audience to an understanding of what variables are demanded from learners today. Fountain utilized brain research to support...
