Around the Web

Well, well, well… there was more going on today on the ol’ Internet besides the unveiling of Google Instant and the new iPhone OS release (which I haven’t upgraded to yet). No sense in wasting time, let’s get rolling.

SAN JOSE, CA - JANUARY 15: The Adobe logo is ...

Adobe has been taking it on the chin of late and today was no different. The software company released a warning that there’s malicious code on the loose that is exposing an unpatched bug in Adobe Reader 9.3.4 and Adobe Acrobat 9.3.4. Get more info at Ubergizmo.

Dell announced that they would no longer ship PC’s with Windows XP after October 22. They were finally strong-armed by Microsoft into moving on… guess it’s time I did as well but it may not be to a new Windows platform. Engadget has details of the notice.

New York Times publisher and chairman announced that at some point in the future the NYT would no longer be a print publication. FINALLY, someone in the newspaper industry has figured out that the future is not in the printed page. Mashable has the complete story.

The USA Today had a good article on the growing trend of computers becoming as necessary a school supply as paper and pencil. Full story here.

I have posted before that I am no fan of textbook companies… they do NOT own knowledge. Well, here is one that has a great idea in a dual screen digital textbook. Even though they still feel entitled to the knowledge, at least they are thinking differently… and maybe some device makers will catch on to this great idea for a computing device. Mashable has the details.

My good buddy Jody Rose dropped a good post on his blog today titled “The Cloud” and 21st Century Learning. He takes on the potential as well as the challenges of letting students create and interact with the cloud to develop and master “21st Century Skills”. Take a look.

I am still trying to find info on a bug working its way around that is affecting Microsoft Exchange servers. I saw about 5 undeliverable responses to e-mail I sent to multiple servers today. One recipient that I could reach via text message said they had been affected and the result was other e-mail servers getting blacklisted and resulting in the bounces. Stay tuned.

My Cardinals took it on the chin today as they continue to fade out of the playoff picture but all is not lost… my Raiders are now 1-0 in year two of my Madden 11 Franchise. We torched the Browns 51-7… yep, I play Madden.

Have a good night!
