on a merry go round…

Recurrence plot of mathematicaly generated chaos I am in a meeting and we are talking data… pure chaos.

We have been asked to ensure the accuracy of data in various silos so that data from one silo can be moved to another. Easy enough, right? We move files and data all of the time… NO PROBLEM.

After 30 minutes of a chaotic discussion with different stories from different districts I think a few things are very obvious.

1. No one is sure if the data is accurate because each silo has different importance to different people… with different personalities and work ethics.

2. How can you move data from one product which adheres to basic data standards into another that does not.

3. We REALLY need to figure out what items of data are TRULY important and why.

4. The poor guy trying to capture all of this discussion into some semblance of “notes” just lost half his hair.

In the end, if you are asking the technology leader in a school district if they feel comfortable saying “the data” is accurate, you probably will get silence. We just aren’t sure if it is accurate or not because of the three items above.
