My name is John McMillen and I am the Chief Information Officer for Graves County Schools in Mayfield, Kentucky. It is my charge to build and maintain a state-of-the-art technological environment to support a world class education for our students and those who shape and support their education.

I also host of Music From the Front Porch on 91.3 WKMS in Murray, KY. The show airs every Saturday morning from 10 AM until 1 PM but I am only able to do every other weekend... so check in and listen to the stream at the above link.

Mobile Devices at Work

I am sitting in a car dealership waiting on a friend who is closing the deal on a new vehicle. During the process I have been watching the car dealer operate with his iPhone. He has used the Internet, used what looked to be the Kelly Blue Book app which, my friend also used so… Touché! He also used his calculator and of course his phone.

My, my, my how things are changing so quickly. Here is a guy that, as I watch him operate a computer, is a novice at best with a computer. A guy who probably doesn’t venture past email and Internet when sitting at a keyboard. However, with his mobile phone in hand he has all the tools he needs to do a vast majority of the things he needs to do business and it seems easy and natural for him.
